The last thing shmu's Incluso team expected when it closed down the Middlefield Youth Flat (MYF) Ning site was someone creating a 'Keep the MYF' protest group! Irene Jimenez, Incluso assistant at shmu, delivered the news of the closure to young people in the flat at her final visit on Tuesday 2nd February, 2010. She didn't know what to expect. Would they be pleased, disappointed, upset, angry?

The one thing young people taking part in all Shmu's Incluso pilots have in common is a preference for watching video over reading. And since there's so much to explain and talk about in the course of a pilot, Shmu's Incluso team has decided to record a range of 2 minute videos giving them food for thought. The videos will include the following:

Bring young people and social software together and copyright is always going to be under threat - either by accident or deliberately. This is a real issue for pilot partners of the EU-funded Incluso project who find themselves running social network sites, forums and so on, which are platforms for uploading and sharing music and video content. Staff and young people must ensure all digital content on their sites complies with copyright rules, but this is easier said than done.

Helping Young People Explain their Opinions

An important research element in the pilots' work involves asking young people for their opinions on their social software activities. But how do we know when they are telling the truth? Do we simply accept what they say? How can we know when they might not be telling the truth? And what reasons do they have for not telling the truth, making stuff up or simply lying? Staff at Station House Media Unit (shmu) in Scotland found that many young people appear to be making things up during discussions about Incluso activities.
