Phase 2 @ shmu
All three SHMU pilots have now entered Phase 2, just three or four months since they were first launched.
It's hoped this new effort and direction will produce better results and contribute more fruitfully towards the Incluso project's objectives.
SHMU's Incluso coordinator Sam Thom said he's unclear whether this is a coincidence, or whether there's a natural hiatus at this point in the research pilots. Here is an overview of recent activity:
Youth Radio Project: activity on the social network site was very simple and not contributing its full potential to Incluso objectives. We've decided to feedback to staff and introduce more in-depth activities which require more thought and communication.
SHMUTRAIN: the social networking site had slipped out of use as the 12 week course came to an end, but the appointment of a SHMUTRAIN coordinator enthusiastic towards social networking has led to a new lease of life to the site, with lots of ideas for activities and engagement.
Middlefield Youth Flat: we've been struggling against a complete lack of interest and engagement with young people aged 14+. We have decided to focus on 12-14 year olds, consult young people on what activities they'd like, offer them more in-depth activities, develop stronger links with staff and continue to publicise activities to the over 14s.
"The work we have been doing in these three pilots has not been wasted, but has helped us in preparation for upcoming pilots," said Sam Thom. "This research programme is as much about what doesn't work as it is about what does work."
