Case 10: Be flexible

At Middlefield Youth Flat in Aberdeen, Scotland, the pilot site we created had at least three incarnations - and each was accompanied by a fresh engagement drive. We learned to consult staff and young people often, and if we found something wasn't working then we asked why and if we could fix it we did or else we tried a new approach.

Our approach at the Tilly Youth Project was equally flexible, and that's the good thing about working online: you can change very quickly, since the cost of failure is low (remember that the cost of investment is almost zeroe since most of these applications are free). But you must consult. After all, remember how it was when you were a young person - you'd run a mile from anything organised by adults, when it was something you could do yourself.
