Incluso & copyright

Bring young people and social software together and copyright is always going to be under threat - either by accident or deliberately.

This is a real issue for pilot partners of the EU-funded Incluso project who find themselves running social network sites, forums and so on, which are platforms for uploading and sharing music and video content.

Staff and young people must ensure all digital content on their sites complies with copyright rules, but this is easier said than done.

We all know the dangers: music is downloaded illegally, video footage is copied without permission or video and music are mixed together without consent from the original artists.

There is, however, an internet organisation which can give us clear guidance on this issue, and it's called Creative Commons.

Creative Commons offers legal, copyright licenses for use by artists to make their work available on the internet. If Incluso pilot staff use this content and observe the license stipulations in the way they use or rework that creation then they can be sure they are copyright-safe.

Don't be afraid of copyright. Make life easier for yourself by looking out for the Creative Commons logo when you're looking for music, video or text.
